Amanda's Story

Amanda graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Cum Laude) in
psychology. She was then selected by AmeriCorps for national service in the Washington D.C. area
where she served the homeless veteran population. Following her service with AmeriCorps, Amanda
pursued her dream of becoming a clinical counselor by completing a Master of Arts degree in counseling
psychology at Argosy University in Arlington Virginia. She has over 20 years of experience working with
children, teens and adults in a variety of settings. Most recently she worked as an outpatient therapist
and clinical supervisor at an outpatient mental health agency. During her time with this agency, she
worked extensively with children in the foster care system and their families to build positive
communication skills, decrease negative behaviors and foster healthy attachments. In addition to her
work with foster care, she provided therapy to clients experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD,
substance abuse and eating disorders.

Amanda has a client centered approach to therapy and utilizes her trainings in Cognitive Behavior
Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, Circle of Security and Child Parent Psychotherapy to help her client’s meet
their treatment goals. She believes that therapy should take into consideration the whole person
including incorporating client’s spiritual and physical well-being into sessions. She enjoys helping her
clients make connections and gain a better understanding of their personal situation and assist them in
making meaningful changes in their lives.

As a military spouse, a mother of four adopted children (two with special needs), and over two decades
of experience providing counseling to clients with complex mental and behavioral health problems, she
is passionate about partnering with individuals and families to help them achieve mental, emotional,
and spiritual wellbeing.

Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She loves traveling to new places and
exploring different cultures, reading fiction, and watching college football and is a Friends superfan.
